Colourful cultural celebration
A Week of Joy, Learning, and Hope in Liberia.
In a quiet community called Sackie Gbomo Town in Kakata City, Margibi County, Liberia, a school recently came alive with excitement, laughter, and celebration during its one-week Gala event. For the students in the community, it was a special time where there was a break from routine and a chance to learn, compete, celebrate culture, and simply enjoy being children.
For many years, the Rushayne Stewart Foundation has supported this school and watched both the children and the community grow. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the pupils during this year’s Gala Day was heartwarming, but it also reminded us why continued support matters so much.
Activities During the Gala Day. The week began with fun-filled activities that brought excitement across the school. On the first day, pupils participated in a lively bag race, hopping toward the finish line while classmates laughed, shouted, and cheered them on. Day two brought the egg race, where pupils carefully balanced eggs while trying not to lose focus or speed. The joy and energy among the children were impossible to miss.
By the third day, the atmosphere shifted toward academics as students took part in a composition spelling and writing test. It was inspiring to see young minds eager to express themselves through writing and demonstrate what they have learned.
The Gala week came to a beautiful close on Friday, May 16, 2026, with a colourful cultural celebration. The pupils proudly dressed in traditional outfits, representing their culture and heritage with confidence and pride. One of the highlights of the day was the selection of the school’s king and queen, a moment filled with excitement, applause, and unforgettable smiles.
