Colourful cultural celebration

A Week of Joy, Learning, and Hope in Liberia.

In a quiet community called Sackie Gbomo Town in Kakata City, Margibi County, Liberia, a school recently came alive with excitement, laughter, and celebration during its one-week Gala event. For the students in the community, it was a special time where there was a break from routine and a chance to learn, compete, celebrate culture, and simply enjoy being children.

For many years, the Rushayne Stewart Foundation has supported this school and watched both the children and the community grow. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the pupils during this year’s Gala Day was heartwarming, but it also reminded us why continued support matters so much.

Activities During the Gala Day. The week began with fun-filled activities that brought excitement across the school. On the first day, pupils participated in a lively bag race, hopping toward the finish line while classmates laughed, shouted, and cheered them on. Day two brought the egg race, where pupils carefully balanced eggs while trying not to lose focus or speed. The joy and energy among the children were impossible to miss.

By the third day, the atmosphere shifted toward academics as students took part in a composition spelling and writing test. It was inspiring to see young minds eager to express themselves through writing and demonstrate what they have learned.

The Gala week came to a beautiful close on Friday, May 16, 2026, with a colourful cultural celebration. The pupils proudly dressed in traditional outfits, representing their culture and heritage with confidence and pride. One of the highlights of the day was the selection of the school’s king and queen, a moment filled with excitement, applause, and unforgettable smiles.

Yet behind the joy of the celebration a deeper reality

As a foundation that has stood with this school for years, we have seen both the strength of the community and the challenges they continue to face. One urgent need is getting the school officially registered, a process that costs about $500. Registration is important because it helps secure the future of the school and strengthens the opportunities available to pupils.

Another challenge is sustaining scholarships for more pupils who are interested in studying. Many families in the community struggle financially, and without support, some children may not have the opportunity to continue their education. Hence, at Rushyane Stewart Foundation, we are soliciting scholarship support in keeping them in school and giving them hope for a brighter future.

Building Project for a Sustainable Future.

There is also a larger dream we have been working toward which is the completion of the remaining construction of the school building we started many years ago. These are not just building projects. They are investments in children, families, and the future of an entire community.

Imagine a space where students can learn in a safer and better environment, where community enlightenment programs, youth development activities, and mentorship initiatives can take place, and where young people can dream bigger because opportunity feels closer. That is *OUR* vision. At the Rushayne Stewart Foundation, we believe education changes lives, and every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

How Can You Make a Difference? This is why we are appealing for support. Your donation, no matter how small it is, can help register the school, sustain existing scholarships, provide more scholarships, support learning materials and educational programs, and finish the long school building project. More importantly, it can help give children in Sackie Gbomo Town the opportunity to build a brighter future.

Together, we can help build a stronger future for Sackie Gbomo Town; one child, one opportunity at a time.
